So I'm watching the debate and I have one question. Ok more than one. Why did John McCain refer to Barack Obama as "That one". What exactly does that mean? I find it interesting that McCain doesn't seem to be able to acknowledge Sen Obama by name? What's up with that? Obama seems to have a lot of good things to say and McCain doesn't have much to counter.

Health records online? WTF? Why would I want my health record to potentially be accessed by anyone. They would have to really improve security for most people to be ok with that.

So Obama talks of helping people with health care. Helping employers to afford health care for their workers. McCain wants to tax health care benefits and put money in the insurance companies pockets. He talks about choice but that sounds like double speak to me.

So if healthcare is a responsibility how do you enforce that without govt involvement? I believe healthcare is a right myself. McCain threw a lot of smoke but Obama seems to be countering. Obama is making sense. McCain makes sense from a GOP perspective but that's all about small govt and big business.

Of course Obama is taking too much time and Tom Brokaw is losing control.

McCain doesn't seem to have much in the way of facts. He's throwing out ideals. I think he just said the surge was a success. That's just sad.

Obama takes McCain's points and turns them around quite well.

We are talking about 1.4 trillion dollars spent between Iraq and this bailout! Amazing. Where is that money coming from. I think it comes from the middle class and ends up in the wallets of Bush and his cronies (including McCain). It's such a shame that politicians cannot get away from this blatant nepotism.

McCain seemed to be a bit smoother with his words in this debate.

McCain can't answer a question without trying to slam Obama. That's pretty pathetic. How is McCain going to bring out troops home in victory? This is a losing proposition. He's not answering questions. He's selling himself.

Did we withdraw from Somalia in humiliation? Now he's slamming Regan. How's that going to go over? So the security of the nation is McCain's priority and we need to be sure we don't bleed and "make the situation worse". Isn't that what Iraq has been?

I think Obama won with "We will kill Bin Laden".

Now McCain quotes Teddy Roosevelt and doesn't answer the question at hand in regards to attacking Pakistan. Then he say "we drove the Russians out of Afghanistan" before correcting himself. I wonder how much we had to do that behind the scenes.

Why does he think the Taliban is cruel to the Pakistanis? The terrorists win the locals over with money and supplies. Why else don't the give up the terrorists? He says Obama is telegraphing his punches but I don't see how. He's speaking of future possibilities that everyone know are probably eventualities.

I think McCain actually answered a question. Oh, nope, almost but then he went back to bagging on Obama. Did I miss something? Did the surge work? Did our troops stop dying?

Of course neither one can just answer "Yes" or "No" on the "is Russia an 'Evil Empire'". Oh well, they are still politicians at heart.

I think Obamas youth and spirit has to win out on this one.

Well the Chief's Mess was represented. That's good. Ok. McCain scored some points there. Everything he ever learned about leadership he learned from a Chief Petty Officer. Would I be hypocritical if I quote McCain on my e-mail signature?

Sanctions are not going to change Iran. We've tried that for years.

Ha! Obama said "game changer" and has thus won over sports fans everywhere. The cliches and quotes are flying!

I like Obama's "reduce energy consumption" theme that he's had throught most of the debate.

What don't you know and how will you learn it? Nice question. I don't think either one will answer. Obama is not. Too bad. It was a good opportunity to set himself apart. Well McCain sort of answered it. He's not talking about how he's going to learn what he doesn't know. Of course saying "what I don't know is the unexpected will be." Uh, Senator, isn't that the nature of the unexpected?

Boy is November going to be interesting or what!

THE VP DEBATE

Are there different rules of debate now in place for Gov Palin than for other candidates? Will Sen Biden be able to legitimately debate her and if he does will he labeled the chauvinistic bully? Have the many who have bashed Sen Clinton become the protectors of women’s rights now that it is their candidate on stage?
